  • Why is the ocean salty? What causes ocean currents?

  • Why are some gases greenhouse gases?

  • Why is sea level rising at different rates in different places?

  • How are ocean and climate change connected? What will the future look like?

  • How can ocean and climate change be addressed with equity and justice at the forefront?

ESCI-153 Fluid Earth: Oceans, Atmosphere, and the Climate System

Textbook: We’ll be using Essentials of Oceanography by Trujillo & Thurman. Editions from 11-13 will work for this class. Copies of the 13th edition (paper & digital) will be available for course reserve via Vassar Libraries.

Class time will be used for 20-30 minute interactive lectures, group work, and other activities.
